The odd places where we do our practices while travelling came to me during practice this morning, which was lovely by the way. I run a mental list and many occasions came up, until I realized I was not focused on Ishwaraha, and dragged myself back into the infinite.

So this is my list:
- The bathroom at work, when I had a "job". Mostly I did the whole standing sequence of the primary series whenever 5:30 would refuse to come around
- Bangkok airport, February of 2009, on the way back from teacher training. I just could not, would not, dare not skip.
- Ezeiza airport, in Buenos Aires, before leaving to come back home in the spring (down there as in the Souther Hemisphere spring) of 2008
- On the plane, while airborn, on the way to Buenos Aires in November of 2008, I went half in the kitchen and, when the flight attendants kicked me out, I continued by the door. I managed most of the standing AND some light backbending. This one got a lot of attention and people came to talk to me upon landing asking for private lessons.
- In the open terrace of my brother's place in Buenos Aires, also in November of 2008, with about 300 spying on me (or so I'd like to think) from behind the infinite number of windows all around.
- In the botanical gardens of Buenos Aires
- In Battery Park this year, a few poses of the primary
How about you, what odd places other than the shala have you done it [primary, intermediate, third, fourth] in?

Awesome! You have done it in the best places.
ReplyDeleteLucky, all this time in Buenos Aires.
Me: Halifax, Nova Scotia airport. Hidden behind a check-in desk. My office at the university, all the time. My old kitchen, all the time. The basement laundry room of my parents' house and my grandma's house. The sanctuary of the church where my dad is a preacher (that effort tends to freak me out, but I try...).
Ha ha ha, I loved the one behind the check-in desk!
ReplyDeleteI'm not that adventurous in terms of location, but I practice in the hovel a lot & will later today, all snotty as I am!
ReplyDeleteI did my 3rd series in the back room of Gold's Gym, last fall, when I was flying up to NH to visit my soon-to-depart father. There is no Astanga in Hudson, NH... Let me tell you people seemed both fascinated and horrified.
Your down dog looks amazing!! thanks for the comment! i like your blog, too.
ReplyDeleteBoodiba, that sounds like a great story, I love the reactions that the series get... and you will have to teach me about what is a "hovel". The dictionary says it is a small poorly built home... wait, just thinking about your landlord now... are you refering to your kingdom in the East Village?
ReplyDeleteKylemilleryoga, thank you! :-), and after reading your latest post I found myself singing the guru bramha mantra this morning... as I prepared to board a plane...
Yes... "hovel" is what I call my shabby, little Bohemian apartment.
ReplyDeleteGood, now I know, little by little I am becoming proficient in Boodiba language :)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty consistent! There's one thing.
ReplyDeleteHa ha--I loved the airplane practice. I travel a lot and would have loved to have seen that. Perhaps I'll try it next time. Of course, with security being as it is, I'm surprized they didn't tazer you.
ReplyDeleteHi Bestlivingpossible, the thing is that when the flight is over 5 or 6 hours (and this one was 11!!!) there is not much they can do, other than give you a look and kick you out of the kitchen, but technically they could not tell me to go back to my seat... it was something, the attempted dropbacks had the passengers on edge (although I was not ever going to do them of course, not even if I could ;-)
ReplyDeleteWould be funny if they tazer-ed a yogi...
