I know, I need to get the tripod downstairs when I shoot the progress...AND frame it properly, bare with me, I am learning too.
As per the dropbacks commitment for 2010, I have to say it is not really working the way I thought it would, mostly because at the shala they get me to drop back assisted every time, and they come quickly, so I don't have much time to "play" so to speak... I still hope to be able to drop back by the end of the year, just not sure it might happen in two months as I originally planned.
But, for the time being here is the drop back progress. At 0:21 I attempt to walk the hands by a bout a millimeter... I call that progress.
hi Claudia, that is nice. is that the studio in which you practice? i see a ballerina barre and mirror in the background.

Hi Arturo, actually is one of the facilities of the building where I live, we have a common yoga room for all to share, nice ha? I love it, i did not go to the shala today cause it was soooo cold and I have been sick with a cold...
ReplyDeleteyou are right, that is a ballerina barre and mirror on the back
hugs to you to
Wow that's a gorgeous room! Lucky you!
ReplyDeleteUD looks lovely, like it's not too difficult for you. You're one of the lucky ones, are you?
Every millimetre counts in backbends, really truly. I did find that I was able to make more progress with dropbacks when I practised at home, for exactly the reason you mentioned. My teacher used to fly over, too, even after I could do them myself (he didn't know that, you see!). The first time I dropped back solo at the shala, he whooped from across the room, it was so unexpected(!). Maybe you could ask in advance for a few minutes time to play?
I'm doing the dropback challenge, too. Gulp!
I look forward to following your progress. Enjoy!
Hi Lew, thank you.
ReplyDeleteThat is funny that you suddenly dropped back at the shala, and wowed the teacher, must've been quite a scene.
Yes I have been also considering if I should practice at home some days for exploration purposes... But right now I need the motivation of the group.
Can you also coma back to standing? And did you also do that by practicing alone?
You mention asking for time, I have... Yet I'm assisted pretty quickly... But some days I get to play a little.
I can come to standing, but it's pretty sloppy still; I usually have to rock back and forth a bit for the first couple, then sometimes I get a rhythm going, sometimes I don't. And yeah, I learned it on my own, using the wall and the couch cushions, gradually reducing the stack. It wasn't ideal - places a bit of strain on the wrists because the angle is all wrong. I wouldn't actually do it that way if I had to start over (which I did, recently). If you have access to a slope, that keeps the alignment of the wrists more stable. Kate over on Yoga-sih has a dodgy wedge thing which looks perfect - called the Liberator, LOL. I don't know where she got it though - drop her a line.
