4th Series and some tough love

This rendition of the 4th series with zen priest Mark Togni is beautiful, you can even check out my favorite asana at 2:39,  I call it the "spider" ( Viparita chakrasana which is actually from 5th series).

But what captured me (and sent me straight to the cushion) was the chants in the beginning, specifically their strength, their clarity, and the fact that they are translated! O H -M Y - G O D ! is all I could think as I saw the sentences pop up on the screen.

It is very much tough love to have you thinking of when you are dying and terrified of what may lay on the other side, as the prana leaves, and considering weather you put your attention on all the wrong things while alive. Talk about a call to live purposely and remember priorities.

I twitted "Where is my cushion?" and then went straight into the purple zabuton to practice Vipassana (or seeing things as they are).

Watch at your own risk of falling into the rabbit hole.

I fist saw this in a post by Yoga Mama which you can find here

  1. Thanks for bringing attention to this again Claudia. Over the past year I have watched this clip many times, drinking in those words...sometimes we forget...
    Happy Holidays, J

  2. You are welcome J, I was going to say "my pleasure" but that would not be correct as watching this video scares the life out of me... and yes, we do tend to forget, may we be reminded. Happy holidays to you too :-)

  4. Yeah, saw this a while ago, apparently Thich Nhat Hanh quotes these same lines in a book the title of which I can't recall right now.

For me the most informative/impressive move here is the entry to Parsva Bhuja Dandasana (at least that's what Ron Steiner/Arjuna's page used to call it), with the from-Chakorasana twisting swingback into the arm balance. YOW.
