Fascinating Mysore blogpost accounts of the past 30 days

It's the time of the year when many ashtangis travel to Mysore, the world capital of Ashtanga.  Here are a few accounts of what is happening:

Fresh off the blogosphere I found an interview with Sharath himself done, well, today!: "Find an authentic yoga method and go to the sources to learn" he advises.

He closes with: "You have to be a student your whole life. Yoga is never ending. It's like the ocean and what we have learned is like a small drop. There is a lot to learn and four our whole life we keep learning".  Yes, we agree, here is the full interview.

Been enjoying reading Kaz, a yogi on her first journey to Msyore, check out the 4:30 AM start picture at the shala for example.  I also enjoyed the recount of a conference with Sharath that included a savasana demo, and the post with the story of how after three years of nothing, two people receive certification: here is the post

Skippetty is also in at Ashtanga central, and she took her first moon day (today) in touristy style.  She went around Mysore photographing every detail to readers' delight.  She saw the laundry being dried on the side of the road, took tempting pictures of lunch and dinner and showed us the "inevitable get out of the way cow", fun post, see it here

If you are going to Mysore soon make sure to also read Skippetty's account of her registration process here. If you have not registered yet but are thinking of going soon keep an eye on the Institute's page as things fill up very quickly after they announce when Sharath and Saraswati will be at the shala next.  See here

This one is a Twitt, it comes from Inside Owl, she Twitted and had me laughing today: "Last year Mysore Police always in shala student's biz. This year, Police Commissioner IS a shala student. He gets double matspace"   I have a good feeling about this, whenever he starts teaching yoga to the police force yoga will start to take over the world! hee hee...

Here is also the Mysore napper, who lives in the city and spent January 1st getting an oil massage in her balcony, I envy her... in a good way of course!  see here

If you are not going to Mysore, consider that Sharath is coming to the United States, he has a tour for April 2011, and will be in New York and Encinitas.  See here.  Saraswatti is going to Sidney, Australia.

Other blogs on India

Someone who has been living in India for the past five years has this beautiful post with "Faces of Russell Market" in Bangalore, the biggest city near Mysore and where most plane land (yes there is an airport in Mysore now but I do not think major airlines are landing there yet)

And Linda feels the call to go back to the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram, let's hope she blogs while she is at it, see the post here

Have I missed anything? any other Mysore accounts we should know of?

  2. Thanks for the beautiful post, Claudia. Or maybe no thanks... now I feel the pull of Mysore stronger than ever. Got to find a way to get there now, even though I'm not sure how this is going to work.

  4. Dear Claudia
I am enjoying the readings you point out. Although I fantasize about going to Mysore, and it's relatively close to me, I realistically won't have a full month off until my fifth year in China, when I need to take a tax holiday a month long. Even then, I will have to ask the permission and understanding of my family because that year I might not be able to go to visit them if I go to India instead. It is possible to spend 10 days in Mysore. One would be Saraswati's students if accepted to go. That is a possibility of a short term.
    hugs

  5. Hi Arturo, the way I understand it they arenpretty specific about the "at least one month" so I suppose if you were to go and pay for one month and then leave early then it should work.... I think I also remember people paying for just a few weeks but those were people who had stayed for two months and then were leaving after two weeks of their third month... Hope you can make it soon, I am sure your family will understand
