Madonna Talking About Ashtanga: I'm Done With The Gym

The video is from 1998 when she visited Oprah. Saw it on a Twitt and found it actually quite good...

She says that her whole disposition towards working out changed after having her baby, and that is why she started yoga, then gives a good description of how Ashtanga is a metaphor for life...

We hear Madonna is not into ashtanga anymore... now she does workouts again with an LA trainer that gets her body into that amazing shape... maybe not all things are forever. Who knows what goes on in the mind of a celebrity. I am sure they need to stay beyond top shape to handle those tours and the rigours of such busy lives.

I will confess that she probably had an influence in getting me into Ashtanga yoga... so thank you Madonna, oh, and happy birthday!

  1. Saw your post title on my blog list and thought "Yay, Madge is back". But sadly no. Not surprised I guess, saw her recent tour on TV the other night, was just flicking through the channels and ended up watching the whole thing. Makes sense that she has a practice designed for touring. Ashtanga, it isn't a once size fits all, it just isn't.

  2. Yeah, definitelly, ashtanga takes a lot out of one... and if she has to get on stage for two hours and give all her life there too, I don't know if I could, then again, she is a leo, just like you, and I hear you guys have endless energy! ;-)

  5. Nice post. I think Madonna also gave me the last kick to start this style, this Ashtanga yoga when I saw her leg behind her head. Such a nice pose this is.

  6. Nice video. Don't watch TV much so I think that's the first time I've heard Madonna just speak, as in no music. x

  9. Her current trainer, Tracy Anderson, is known for advocating starvation, and her training methods are quite suspicious if you ask me.

As for teaching Madonna, I've heard one gets over it quickly.

  10. Actually I should probably clarify that T.A. doesn't train Madonna anymore - there was a notorious incident with Gwyneth Paltrow about this.

Man, every time I engage in gossip like this I feel dirty afterwards.

  11. Hi V. I am a big fan of Madonna, always read about her... hope you dont feel too dirty...

So, guess no more Tracy for her then... wonder how she trains, maybe in her new line of gyms...

I often wonder what it must be like to train a celebrity, especially her being so famous and having the world turn around her...

  12. Having heard some tales from her former private ashtanga teacher, I hear she was *quite* an interesting student...but i'm not one to gossip ;)
