SUNDAY YOGA BLOG TIMES: EDDIE CHALLENGES BROAD TO VEDIC DEBATE: LOSER BECOMES DISCIPLE OF WINNER

Eddie Stern Challenges William Broad [Yoga-wrecks-your-body's  NYT's book publicity stunt] to a Vedic debate where the loser becomes disciple of winner... I wanna see it! go Eddie!

This week we saw how a radio mega personality lost all advertising for calling a woman a "s...t", perhaps a bit much when compared to what happened to John Friend, whom after much more than just calling names (sleeping with students/employees, etc.) gets pulled from the Manduka yoga mats that carry his name. Clicking on any of those products leads to a "page not found". There are however still a few videos of his old persona within the website, wonder if they will stick long...

Hm, I had no idea that students of Tim Miller do as far as 8 Urdva Dhanurasanas!  That is an inspiration to me.  Glad that Rose made videos of the Confluence and is sharing them -some in that very post-

USA Yoga? Olympics? Championships? Really?

Sereneflavor gives her 10 first impressions on the Confluence last weekend. And on the second installment she tells my favorite re-count.

Eddie Stern's thoughts on the Confluence

100 Abandoned Houses. There is something in these pictures that leaves me breathless.

My Blog roll on the right of this page disappeared!  uh, oh, tech difficulties.  I am building it again slowly... If you don't see your blog there please let me know. Pleaseeee.

John Campbell, my own teacher and certified ashtangi (as well as Tibetan Studies Ph.D.)  is teaching a 300 hour training at Pure Yoga in NYC this April.

  1. thanks for a great round-up, as always Claudia.
i can't help myself but think that this kind of titles and behaviour in regards to yoga world (anusara, ashtanga) happening at the moment are just a result of our western mind. our society has made majority of us lose the moral balance either exploiting the trust of those who look up to you, turning everything into a commercial enterprise, being envious, sniping, competing. not sure western world can handle the idea of yoga or anything spiritual as the only way we can make it close to and accepted by the majority is if it's commercial. the language of money has made our world move for way too long.

  2. Hi I, good to hear from you. Also great that you commented, I was missing your great blog from the roll, so just added back, hope you are feeling better!

As per what you say, I agree, it is a reflection o nthe maturity of us westerners on yoga, not quite there yet... but on the path. I feel very disappointed at what happened with this public figure in particular, but I feel that continuing the conversation, especially since I obviously do not belong to their tradition, adds to more words and takes me away from what is really important, which is my own practice... Nevertheless, really disappointing...

  3. I did a workshop with Matthew Sweeney last year and he said something like, "Backbends are like pancakes. The first two are rubbish." The notion is that if you want 1 *quality* backbend, you have to do 3. Similarly, if you want 3 of *quality*, then you need to do 5. So it seems he and Tim are of like mind!
