3 hours in Mayurasana? Anyone? Well Krishnamacharya apparently did...

The Voyager, launched from Earth and to explore the infinity of space is about to exit our solar system. That very edge of our galaxy is called the "heliopause" and no spacecraft has ever reached it... Happening right around now, as many of us engage on the innernaut trip of yoga. Interesting!
And Gregor Mahele's new book, Pranayama The Breath of Yoga is out! I've started reading already and liking it quite a bit!

Claudia,
ReplyDeleteI read over the post linked into your about Krishnamacharya in Mayurasana for 1 minute to 3 hours and wow. That is some crazy knowledge. I can't even imagine how long he worked at that before actually attaining it. Have you tried the extended pose practices yet?
Thanks,
Brianna
I think K hd the same sense of humour as Richard freeman (Karandavasana in a couple of weeks : ) but K does say practice it for fifteen minutes daily so I imagine K used to do that, can't manage more than a couple of minutes myself.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the link Claudia and for the Sunday times as ever
I love these weekly round ups. You leave me with no excuse to just stick to the blogs in the list on the side of my screen, and prompt me to look around the wider online world of yoga.
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, 3 hours? It feels like a religious myth that you (I mean 'one') should take a spiritual message from, not a literal one.
Ragdoll, thanks, and yes, you are probably right I am not sure it would be literal, even Grimmly below seems to think he had a sense of humor... Indeed, just a spiritual message, perhaps eliminating all the impurities not just from the gross body but also the emotional?
ReplyDeleteI had frogotten about Karandavasana in a couple of weeks from Richard, that is a classic... You are welcome, been enjoying your blog lately very much, the whole Krishnamacharya focus has opened new avenues of discovery for all of us... :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, that is a good blog ha? He practiced for a very long time and very diligently, aparently he started very early with the devotional side of yoga when his father would drop water in his ears to wake him up early as a young boy to do his chanting... the rest followed...
ReplyDeleteI only try extended poses in the inversions and in the forward bend, paschimotananasa, although a few weeks ago I tried 12 long breaths a pose for primary series (well part of it) as an experiment, and it was wonderful
