Claudia, I am a beginner to Ashtanga. I bought this CD to learn, but still I am not quite sure what to do. Are we supposed to start w/ primary series in the CD and do whatever we can do? What about the seated postures and closure postures in the CD? Thanks for your help.
Anon, that is great, congratulations on getting the Richard Freeman CD.
I know very little about you and your circumstances obviously, but I can tell you how I did it.
I started with the standing poses and to where I could with the sitted, I think in the beginning I could only "fake" MARI A, it was difficult, so I either stopped there or modified for the rest including the closing.
But what I did is probably not the best indication of how someone should do it. The traditional method says that you go only until the pose you are having trouble with, and stop there so that you have enough energy to work at it.
In Mysore they teach the standing and add one pose at the time. Then they add the closing poses as well, and add one at the time, then add more in the middle, as your ability progresses.
The best in the end, really, is to find a teacher that can guide you while watching you and getting to know your own specific practice.
Good luck with everything!, Richard is an excellent start!
Hi Claudia, thank you so much for your reply. Yes, the poses are very difficult, on my first try I did Mari A and some Mari B, actually "faked" :) Finding a teacher seems to be a better way, as you say. Again I appreciate your insights. Thank you!
Hello Claudia, Just wondering if you had a particular dvd that you recommend - I can see there are a few listed in your shop recommendations. I am a committed student who has a hard time getting a decent practice when on holiday (or anywhere outside of the studio for that matter). Had a brain wave that I should get a dvd and follow the pace on-screen - plus it might almost be like having my teacher standing over me!
Anonymous comments can no longer be accepted (I was getting enormous amounts of spam)... But I hope you guys still continue to share your views, I welcome the conversation
I just finished your book. Thought is was great, thank you. ~ Jodi
