I have been reading the yogasutras interpretation by Gregor Maehle in his book Ashtanga Yoga Practice and Philosophy.
I was struck by how much all of the messages from the spiritual masters are exactly the same... there is a silence beyond thought, that is where God is, that is what liberation and freedom means.
yogasutra 1.13 reads: "Practice is the effort to attain steadiness in the suspended mind". I liked it because it is a combination of the previous sutra, in which Patanjali mentions that we attain this suspended mind both by practice and detachment (could have been written by Chopra for all I know).
Anyway, I noticed that at yogasutra since Christopher left, the frequency by which the sutras are posted on the white board is less than before, so I thought I would suggest it to Gregg. But I did not want to do it out of ego, so I asked God to give me a sign to see if it was OK to ask.
Interestingly enough God did answer. As I left class today, Greg was not in the class, he was in the kitchen which gave me plenty of time to ask and for him to also talk to me about the sutra.
I was amazed at the fact that he can read Sanskrit out of the page, just like that, and he knows the meanings of all the words, which seem to be a lot more concise than the actual definition written earlier from the book.
Now I must keep practicing... practicing being here and now, that is what Independence is all about after all. Happy 4th.
