I happen to think that putting things in writing gives them "momentum", call me a fan of Anthony Robbins (which I am sometimes) and/or the positive thinking movement, (also), but the thing is that whenever things came to happen in my life they were always inevitably "written down somewhere" prior to manifestation.
So here are mine:
- Meditate daily
- Re-establish pranayama practice
- Drop back (you knew that one)
- Come back from the drop backs, ambitious!
- Start the intermediate series (pleaseeeee)
- Become enlightened.... yes I know, it may take lifetimes, but I thought I would start writing it at some point, just in case
So what are yours? would love to hear

ReplyDeleteSimple intention that I'm working on and beginning to actually see some progress. I figure that working towards that will start developing the strength for jumpback/throughs.
Hi Portside, that is a great goal, 5 minutes would be about 60 breaths? nice . By the way, I loved your backbending videos, I feel like trying the one with the chair, that Iyengar guy really has some good tricks up his sleeve

ReplyDeleteMy goal SHOULD be to complain less, but I'm doubtful of my abilities in this direction.
That is funny Boodiba... a while back I took a workshop in which they gave us a rubber band to be put on the waist, and whenever we complained we were suppose to stretch it, let it go, and hence get slapped really hard... it worked, it taught me at least to complaint less, and to catch myself right before and change the subject (under the prospect of pain)...
ReplyDeleteToday I tried to do 3 minutes in sirsasana and that was something, I used to be there for a long time in Thailand, dont know what happened... I think the cold really messes up with me
Maybe I should try that! It'd attract less attention than, say, slapping myself in the face.
ReplyDeleteI used to do timed, 5m Sirsasana all the time. I've worked up to 10m too, just to see if I could... I find that selecting songs that add up to the total length of desired time helps me to hold it.
Theoretically, I would think that it should be 60 breaths. Of course, I always lose count at some point. Glad you liked the videos Claudia - picked up some fun little tricks from some Iyengar classes. The chair one is probably my fav. :)

These were self practices that were non astanga, and very often the first pose I'd start with would be the long headstand...
ReplyDeleteI'm so busy with astanga now & I've got enough strength based inversions with 3rd series. I don't really do these kinds of self practices anymore. Made me strong though.

ReplyDeleteB, that is a good idea, to have a song... just like Portside suggests, may not work at the shala, but hey, in those days when it may be too cold for the shala it could be something!
Oh right I'm used to thinking of this as outside of the context of Astanga...
ReplyDeleteTotally got me thinking to set some goals for my practice and on the path of living yoga. I really didn't consider any resolutions this year because I feel resolved enough (ha) but setting some goals for practice and for myself sounds appealing and beneficial. Thank you!!
